The choir will bring their Christmas cantata to the church on Sunday, December 18 at the 11 am service.
Christmas Candlelight Service
The Christmas candlelight service and cantata will be Wednesday, December 14, at 7 PM. Come join us for a wonderful night of worship.
Christmas Senior Luncheon
The senior Christmas Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13 at 12. Come join us for a wonderful meal and wonderful fellowship.
Community Christmas Service
The churches of New Salem will hold their annual Christmas service Sunday, December 4 at 6 PM at the New Salem Community Center. Everyone is invite to come and join us. We will have finger foods and desserts as well as caroling.

Benefit Concert for Tornado Victims
There will be a benefit concert at Dade County High School Auditorium featuring Norman and Nancy Blake on November 19 at 7pm. Tickets are $15 each. All proceeds go to benefit tornado disaster victims.

Update on UMW Bazaar
The UMW bazaar will be held on November 19, 9am - 2pm. Please join us for chili and taco soup. Come select your Christmas gifts. Featuring crafts and homemade canned and baked goods for your Thanksgiving dinner. Drawing for a beautiful hand sewn quilt made by Faye Nichols. Sarah Moore and Barbara Bradford are the contacts for donations on the quilt. Crafts and baked goods are needed. The new Christmas UMW cookbooks are finished and will be on sale for $12.

UMW Pennies for Missions
The UMW saved pennies for missions in the amount of $131.63. As pennies were placed in the jar daily a prayer was said for missions.

Christmas Shoe Boxes
The due date for the Christmas shoe boxes is Sunday November 13. There are still a few empty boxes in the sanctuary if you need one. Choir Cantata
The choir has begun preparing their cantata for Christmas. Practice is on Sunday nights at 8pm and Wednesday nights at 7pm. All singers are welcome to come and participate in the cantata.

Christmas Shoe Box project
It is time for the Christmas Shoe box project. Please take a shoe box from the sanctuary. Inside will be all the instructions you need. Fill the box and bring it back sometime during the next two weeks. Deadline Sunday is November 13. It twill take $7 for shipping of each shoe box. So if you prefer to give money rather than buying items, you can give the money to Donna Franklin or Ruth Stanley. DO NOT put money in the shoebox.

New Salem Fire Department Family Fire Prevention Night
The New Salem Fire Department is sponsoring a fire prevention night for families on October 13, at 7 PM at the fire hall. The event will begin with a water show. Everyone is welcome.
Festival Worship
We will have a combined worship service on Sunday, October 9 at 11 AM at the New Salem Festival grounds amphitheater. Special music will include the children's choir, the adult choir, and the men's ensemble. Invite your friends to join us for this speacil time of worship.

Wedding Shower for Billy Hawkins and Sarah Buffing
A wedding shower will be held at the New Salem community center for Billy Hawkins and Sarah Buffington on September 29 at 7 PM. Everyone is invited to attend and the wish the couple well.
College Student Outreach
The forms for college students in the church who are studying away from home are in on the bulletin board in the foyer. These forms help us to send care packages to students and military individuals. Please fill out one of these forms and give it to JoAnn Cartledge or lay them in the foyer. If you are away and cannot get the forms personally, please contact the Pastor and he will get you a form.

Senior Adult Day
Senior adult day at Cloudland Canyon State Park, October 12, 9am - 2 pm. Charles Maynard will lead the program "Experiencing the Mountain in the Bible." Betsy McCall will provide music for the group. Lunch will be provided. There will be no cost. This is made possible by a grant received from Holston Conference, Margaret Loving Trust. Senior adults from area churches are invited to attend. Sunday Night Bible Study schedule and content
The Sunday Night Bible Study resumes this Sunday, August 28 at 6:30 pm. We will begin a study of church history. This study will help us understand who we are, why we do what we do and why we believe what we believe. Come out and join us for this fun and informative study.
Input Into the Nominations Process
The Lay Leadership Committee is inviting the church into next year's nomination's process. On Sundays September 4 and 11 we will hand out nomination forms. On those forms you may nominate yourself or recommend someone for a church position. The nomination committee will take that information and use it in the nominations process. People who nominate themselves will be given preference in the nomination process. Recommendations for other individuals will necessarily involve that person as to their desire to serve. Ultimately the power to nominate persons to officers positions resides with the Lay Leadership Committee. However, the Lay Leadership committee would love to have your input. Thank you for you input.
A Messy Party for Kids
We will have a messy party on Sunday, August 21 at 3 pm. Children of all ages are welcome to come and enjoy getting messy and having fun. Wear clothes or a bathing suit that can get totally sloppy. We will rinse off with a huge slip and slide.

Children's Activities - Celebration Day at Camp Lookout
Camp Lookout will host their annual Celebration day on August 7 at Camp Lookout. Activities start at 3 pm. Bring clothes for swimming. Hot dog dinner at 5:30 pm.
Outreach Opportunity - Bethlehem Center Walk of Blessings
The Bethlehem Center in Chattanooga is holding a 3 mile "Community Walk of Blessings" on Saturday August 27 at 8 am. If you would like to walk and pray and participate in this event please contact Ruth Stanley for details.

UMW Yard Sale
The UMW yard sale will be August 4-6. The UMW is collecting items for the yard sale. Please check your garage, closets, kitchen cabinets and attics to see if you have any items to donate. The money collected will be used to purchase food to serve at our free Senior Lunches. If you have large items that need to picked up please call Shirley (398-3002) or Barbara (718-2374).
Women's Devotional
There will be a woman's devotional on Wednesday mornings at 8am in the Sunday school building.

Help Needed
The Citizen's group scheduling volunteer teams to re-build,has a out-of-town work team coming in Saturday July 9th to begin rebuilding a house,and they need a "community representative " to be with them on that day to help them know where places are at here (building supply ,etc) .
This is something that would be very helpful to a group that is good enough to come and help.

Volunteers are needed in the areas of; Food Distribution,Case Management,Volunteer co-ordination,Grant and Fund procurement, Construction Co-ordination, Materials Procurement and Warehousing.

We are currently overwhelmed by the generous response of individuals and organizations in bringing clothes to help storm victims. However, we no longer have any free space to store the clothes. Thanks to those who have helped. If you know of anyone who needs clothes please let them know about our abundance.

UMW Chattanooga District Annual Retreat
The district UMW will be holding their annual retreat at Camp Lookout on March 19. The cost is $15.00 which includes lunch. Rev. Sherry Boles will the leader for the event.
Lenton Prayer Services
Throughout the season of Lent, we will have prayer services every Saturday morning at 8 am. These services begin on March 12 and continue through Lent. How about giving up some of your Saturdays for Lent?
Ash Wednesday
We will have our annual Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday March 9 at 7 PM. We will have the imposition of ashes.
Ministry to those serving in military
We are looking to expand our ministries to those who are active in the military. You can help us by providing the following information: the soldier's name, their military address, their birthday, local contact info, relative's name, phone number, and favorite snacks.
